Flexible form factors of organic solar cells open the potential for renewable energy harvesting in niches that conventional silicon solar cells cannot fill. However, scaling this technology from laboratory to industrial scale fabrication involves understanding the mechanisms that govern the stability and reproducibility of this technology. Another barrier to scaling OPV fabrication is the reliance on toxic solvents that pose dangers to the environment and human health. Sophie’s research integrates all of these challenges, focusing on improving sustainability, scalability, and stability of organic solar cells.
