Sarah Millen

Graduate Student, 2025 Symposium Presenter

Research Advisor: Chris Dames
BETR Research Thrust: Next-Generation Devices

Bio

Sarah Millen is a PhD student in Mechanical Engineering at UC Berkeley, where she works with Prof. Chris Dames on nanoscale thermal transport for microelectronic and quantum applications. She received her B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and Applied Physics from UC Irvine. Her previous work at Northrop Grumman focused on multiphysics simulations for low temperature superconducting electronics.

Research

Sarah is working on thermal models to inform the design of both quantum and classical devices. Her research aims to advance quantum technology by addressing the thermal challenges in superconducting devices via phononic bandgap engineering. Sarah is also exploring phase change random access memory (PCRAM) designs to leverage the transition behavior of chalcogenide phase change material.
